Our requirements for third-party disbursements

We pay disbursements for counsel or other third parties such as professional fees and expert reports as part of a grant of legal assistance. We have updated our Handbook to clarify the information we require to assess requests for disbursements and the materials that practitioners need to retain on file to substantiate their claims.

We recently updated the VLA Handbook to clarify the types of documents that must be provided to us or retained on file as minimum evidence to substantiate requests and claims for payment for third party disbursements.

Clarifying what is required will help to reduce delays in the grants assessment process and reduce uncertainty about the documents that must be retained on file for the purpose of compliance checks.

Uploading the required documents to ATLAS at the time of submitting claims for payment of fees that are not set out in the VLA Handbook will also help us to validate those claims and streamline our payment process.
