Andrew Jackomos has served on our Board since July 2023 and yesterday advised us his intention to resign his position effective immediately. Andrew has been on a period of leave following his appointment as a Member of Victoria’s Treaty Authority late last year. Understandably, he has indicated that with increasing work on Treaty he is unable to continue on our Board.
In resigning his position, Andrew said 'I am honoured to have been appointed to the Board and greatly valued the task and collegiate approach from fellow directors.'
Andrew is a proud Yorta Yorta and Gundidtjmara man from north-central and south-west Victoria respectively. Andrew is also proud of his Greek heritage from the Mediterranean Island of Kastellorizo. As our inaugural First Nations Board member, we benefited from Andrew’s insights and experience to guide the strategic direction of the organisation and we’re grateful for the contributions he made during that time.
Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Noble said 'Andrew’s expertise was a critical addition to our Board and we thank him for the frank and fearless advice he provided to the organisation. We appreciate his dedication to the ongoing work of Treaty in Victoria and wish him well in those endeavours.'
Since his appointment he oversaw the expansion of our First Nations services, participated in our National Reconciliation Week events, helped launch our second Reconciliation Action Plan and supported the recruitment of senior First Nations staff into the organisation. His advice on ensuring culturally safe spaces for staff and clients was invaluable.
We had advocated for some time for the appointment of a First Nations Board member, and continue our commitment to increasing diversity and representation at all levels of the organisation.
