About this education kit

This kit helps teachers, youth workers and other educators teach young people about their rights with police and protective services officers (PSOs) in Victoria. The aim of Street law is to increase young people's legal knowledge so they can make educated choices.

The kit covers the following topics:

  • giving your name and address
  • orders to move on and stay away
  • weapons searches
  • searches on public transport.

The education kit is based on a series of videos that tell a story about a young person who comes across a police officer or a PSO on the street.

These resources were originally produced by Youthlaw in collaboration with young people from Youthworx Media.

From 7 November 2023, police and PSOs can no longer arrest or fine you for being affected by alcohol (intoxicated) in public. A public health response is now in place. We have removed information on public intoxication from this kit. For more information about these laws go to public intoxication.
