We are recruiting

We are working to establish a new Victoria Legal Aid service in Wodonga to provide more access to our legal and non-legal assistance.

Our new service will work in partnership with existing community legal services and our panel practitioners in Wodonga and the wider Ovens-Murray communities.

We are planning to deliver legal services including:

  • helping to provide duty lawyer services at court
  • some litigation work to meet local demand.

Regional Manager Erica Molyneaux says our new service will aim to complement those already available and bolster legal assistance in the region.

‘We are aware of the limited number of panel practitioners in the region.

'Introducing an additional service will enable more people to access legal aid.'

With plans to establish our service later this year, recruitment is currently underway for a deputy managing lawyer, the first of four positions to be based at Wodonga.

The deputy managing lawyer will help establish the new service. Their initial focus will be on developing our relationships with local services including courts, Hume Riverina Community Legal Service and local lawyers.

They will also lead the recruitment of our new Ovens-Murray team, which will include two senior lawyers and an intake and referral officer, to join later in 2024.

As the new service is established, they will work to ensure we deliver safe and inclusive services for First Nations and culturally diverse clients.

Erica says she is keen to increase not only the number of legal services, but also the number of panel practitioners in the local area.

‘Relocation assistance is available, so we really encourage candidates who would be happy to relocate to the area.

‘Wodonga is one of the fastest-growing cities in north-east Victoria. The twin towns of Albury-Wodonga offer an amazing lifestyle on the Murray River.’
